A very wet wedding at the Bank of England Sports Centre

The Bank of England Sports Centre, in Roehampton, South-West London – Asad and Paul’s wedding, on a very wet Sunday. Rain, rain and more rain. This wedding was going to stay indoors. Inside though, Asad and Paul were surrounded by the warmth of their guests – there to celebrate their wedding day. (Just the rain meant no ping pong on the terrace!)

So the coverage: no prep wanted. I arrived before the guests, as they arrived dodging the constant downpour. The odd jet cutting through the low cloud above, on it’s approach to Heathrow. The soundtrack of much of west and south-west London. Asad and Paul arrived in a big white Roller – a bit of ‘jacket trouble’ under the umbrella. Their friend, Bill, on hand, to be the MC. The guests gathered in the Green Room, the guys went for their interview with the Registrars.

Bill led Asad in, Paul’s parents escorted him. The ceremony. For anyone there, two phrases…’ awful husband’, ‘just one job’ – mixed-up words, mixed up rings – it led to plenty of laughter. Plenty of tears too. Married. Back to the bar and drinks – with a thousand hugs. (The odd ice cream too). Asad and Paul went for a drive in the rain, the wedding guests headed for the attached marquee. Confetti in hand poised for the entrance of the grooms. Ambush. Food, interspersed with several speeches – more laughter, tears and hugs.

A brief respite from the rain – a few pictures outside, then back in for more speeches, as the evening guests started to arrive. This time Paul and Asad spoke – lots more tears. Cake cut, first dance – confetti cannon – the inflatable photo booth. The evening cracked on. Paul and Asad went for a change of clothes and then continued the dancing…
