Slaugham Place wedding – Rachel & Simon

Wedding photography at Slaugham Place
Slaugham Place, the ruins of an Elizabethan manor house, just below the small Sussex village of Slaugham – and a local venue for me. For Brighton residents, Rachel and Simon, just a short drive up the A23. This busy road is just yards away from the ruins, but the trees muffle any traffic noise. A perfect location for an outdoor wedding ceremony, as long as the weather plays ball!
An outdoor wedding, plenty of space, a scenic backdrop, large marquee, games, music and lots of beer!!
Rachel got ready with family and friends down the road, at Cisswood House hotel. Then it was an open-top, chauffeur-driven Morris Minor, to nearby Slaugham Place. The weather forecast was mixed – the rain stayed away!
So an outdoor wedding ceremony. The vows under the surviving courtyard arches, from the old manor, much of which was knocked down in the eighteenth century. A good location for a wedding. Once one of the finest Tudor houses in Sussex, built around 1591, the year of its owner’s Sir Walter Covert’s knighthood, he was a Parliamentarian. But the house was mostly demolished in the eighteenth-century after years of neglect. What is left is now the atmospheric backdrop to outdoor wedding ceremonies. The principal remains are portions of 2 towers, part
of the kitchen and hall and 3 round-headed doorways.
Then Rachel and Simon went for a spin in the car before returning to the reception. Drinks, laughs and some dodgy space hopper action followed…..
Food in the large marquee and speeches, before the dancing. But also a quick dash into the ruins to get the very last sunlight, as it rapidly dipped behind the village. The light was literally receding along the lawn as Rachel and Simon walked across from the marquee – but we got some. We followed it around the ruins.
Here are a few images from a lovely wedding day at Slaugham Place…

Love love love!
So clear and perfection shots. Black and white color tone is totally different from us. I keep seeing all this type of pictures and learn.
