Wedding reception at the Romans Baths in Bath

Roman Baths wedding

A Roman Baths wedding for Naomi & Will – strictly a Bath Guildhall and Roman Baths wedding, ceremony and evening reception, in the city where they met. A ceremony in the Alkmaar room in the Guildhall – a former courtroom. Drinks reception and meal in The Banqueting Room and then a short walk to the Baths for evening drinks and dancing.

Like many of my wedding bookings, this wedding has links to others. In this case, it starts with the wedding of Amy & Chris in 2015 at Nutfield Priory. The next is the wedding of Amy’s mother, Jan and Naomi’s father, Steve, in 2021, in their large Surrey garden. So nine years after the first, this wedding in Bath.

Coverage starts in the luxury rental of 12 Union Passage, where Naomi was getting ready. I arrived early but she had already done her makeup and was keen to get her wedding dress on. Her father, Steve, then led her the short distance across to The Guildhall in Bath, where Will waited in the Alkmaar Room. The ceremony complete it was then upstairs to the Banqueting Room in Bath Guildhall for a drinks reception, wedding meal and a few speeches. Throughout the harpist, Glenda Allaway, played in a corner of the hall.

It was then time to vacate the Guildhall and for the guests to line up in front of the Abbey, marshalled by the bridesmaids, for a confetti run. Come 7 pm, the guests were able to access the Roman Baths and have drinks around the Great Bath. Once a unique hot water – from the thermal spring – Roman Bath. In the second century it gained a massive vaulted ceiling, the lack of any ceiling now means the water is green from algae. It is no longer for swimming/bathing in. Much of the surrounding structure is nineteenth and twentieth-century but done tastefully enough, in the honey-coloured stone, to evoke a feel of an ancient location. But what a great location for the next set of wedding speeches!

As night fell, it was time to head upstairs for the cake cutting followed by the live band – all in the large foyer at the Baths.
