Old Luxters Barn | Christina & Nick
Old Luxters Barn wedding
Old Luxters Barn is an old 18th-century barn located in the Hambleden Valley, just north of Henley-on-Thames. A quiet spot in the English countryside. My car’s sat nav decided to take me there on a convoluted route from Sussex. The barn is part of the Chiltern Valley Winery, Brewery and Vineyard. Customers clutching cases of drinks could be seen in amongst the wedding guests prior to the ceremony. The wedding ceremony, meal, speeches and dancing took place in the barn. The courtyard for drinks was warm enough to be outside in early October, with the Stretch Marquee, the sides on, just beside the courtyard for drinks and cake cutting, as the barn was cleared for the evening party.
Nick was there early, with help from Christina’s sister, to check on the barn and welcome arriving wedding guests. Christina and her parents snook in, as the gusts mingled in the courtyard. Her father then escorted her across for the ceremony to begin in the old barn. A brief ceremony by the registrars and the guests formed up for the confetti run. At the end of which was a German wedding tradition, a nod to Christina’s German heritage through her mother, cutting a large wooden log. Called baumstamm sägen, it involves the couple having to work together to saw through the log, which is symbolic for getting over the first obstacle in their marriage. A first for me at a wedding.
A well-earned drink after. Drinks in the courtyard, a quick pic in the vineyard and then in for dinner and speeches. By nightfall, back out to the marquee to cut the cake and chat some more, as the wedding band, The Covered, set up in the barn. The dancing started – along with a messy tray of shots.
