Morden Hall | Susie & Michael
Morden Hall wedding
Morden Hall in South London, my first wedding shot there. Not sure I have ever had an enquiry for it before either? But I have been there before…a few years ago…when I won The Wedding Photographer of the Year – London & the South-East 2016, in The Wedding Industry Awards, for the second year running. The award ceremony was held at Morden Hall. It looked a bit different then. I’ve entered those awards I think five times, and won three times.
An old house, with large grounds, backing onto the park, it seems out of place in busy South London. A little piece of country estate in London, not far from Morden tube station and next to the busy A24 – but shielded by trees.
A wedding all in one place
Prep, ceremony, reception – all in one place. It makes the timings of a wedding day a lot smoother. No getting from A to B to C. No parking hassles. More time for a couple to hang out with family and friends. I arrived early but still passed Susie’s hair stylist leaving. This was a very prepared crowd. The ceremony room is just below the vast bridal suite. A small flight of stairs, with the two small flower girls leading the way to kick off the ceremony. The stairs finish at the back of the room. A friend, Fergus, who had introduced the couple to each other, acted as a celebrant. The legal bit had happened the day before in Brixton Town Hall. Another friend and Susie’s sister with the readings. Ceremony complete, the weather had held off – the forecast had been awful for this point just a few hours before – to allow confetti and then drinks on the terrace.
Dinner, speeches, some espresso martinis, cake cut and then the dancing!
