Brookfield Barn | Ria & Dominic
Brookfield Barn wedding
Brookfield Barn is just a few miles down the road from my house but strangely I’d never shot there before. So a new Sussex wedding venue to me, but a bride and groom that I’d seen before. Like many of my wedding bookings, this one came from word of mouth. Or rather, they attended the wedding of their friends at the end of 2021 and saw how I captured that wedding day. So a reversal, the wedding guests become the couple, and the previous couple become the wedding guests. I once shot a wedding with three previous couples among the wedding guests.
Brookfield Barn is a purpose-built wedding venue, just outside the village of Mannings Heath, in turn just south of my town, Horsham. Building on what was once a private house, the barn is modern, rather than an old barn such as at Cissbury. But it is big, the oak-framed barn being built in 2016 I believe. So a rather newish West Sussex wedding venue still. Beside the barn, a small lake/big pond(?) – next to which the outdoor wedding ceremony is held. If it rains, the barn is the spot. Then across the lake/pond, an expanse of empty land that had once been a small private golf course. Looking West, it’s useful for a quick sunset portrait if the weather plays ball!
A Self-contained wedding venue
Everything in the same location – getting ready, ceremony, drinks reception, meal and dancing. It helps a wedding flow and you don’t lose time travelling from A to B to C. As Ria got ready upstairs, Dominic was in the bar below, getting ready too. A ceremony outside, as the weather in mid-September was fine, then after a bit of confetti, around to the terrace for drinks. Dinner and speeches were in the big barn. Once that was done the barn was cleared and the band set up. Same band that was at the Lewes wedding in 2021 – a bit more space this time and not the Omicron Covid threat there had been at the end of that year.
