Chelsea Old Town Hall | Eimear & Max

Chelsea Old Town Hall wedding
Chelsea Town Hall is one of the London wedding venues, like Old Marylebone Town Hall, famous for its celebrity weddings. Stars like Judy Garland, Richard Burton, Hugh Grant, Bobby Moore, Pierce Brosnan and Marc Bolan, stood on these steps for the confetti. A wedding venue described by The Independent newspaper as ‘one of the hippest places to get married’. This time it was the Irish couple Eimaer and Max who chose Chelsea Town Hall to get married in. The wedding would remain local after the ceremony too.
London Registrars
It is a curious thing how Registry offices like Islington, Hackney, Westminster and Chelsea are so photo-friendly, unlike so many Registrars outside of the Capital. There is a nice informality about Chelsea. Especially in some of the smaller rooms, like the ceremony at this wedding, in The Brydon Room. The murmur of the King’s Road traffic just outside. Registry ceremonies are brief compared to religious ceremonies and it wasn’t long before the wedding guests were assembled out on the steps, waiting to shower Eimaer and Max with flower petals. Being August in England, of course, some rain appeared.
Wedding reception at Stanley’s restaurant
Huddled under the jackets from the chivalrous, Eimaer led the way across the King’s Road, to the nearby Stanley’s restaurant – an easy stone’s throw from Chelsea Old Town Hall. Set within a partially covered courtyard, it was drinks, food and speeches. Good food too. Then a fleet of taxis to ferry the couple and their guests across to another local venue for the evening reception, not far away, The Sloane Club. More drinks, a photo booth and some roving musicians, all on a contained terrace at the private members club on Sloane Street.
Coverage finished with their first dance, as they were surrounded by their friends and family. For me, with the train strikes current, a bit tense as I watched train after train back to Sussex get cancelled that evening. I had to run to the train station and managed to just board one leaving, with just seconds spare…the hazards of working in London these days!
