Compton church wedding | Sophie & Oliver
Compton Church wedding photography The second wedding last weekend with a Greek connection and also a strong Aussie flavour. Sophie and Oliver’s Surrey wedding in Compton just outside Guildford. Unfortunately, the weather was neither like what you’d expect in May Greece or Australia. It was very cold and a bit wet at times. The sun appeared for a few minutes, which we grabbed for a quick portrait (was that our summer?). Coverage starts in the nearby city of Guildford. Sophie was getting ready with her mother and her friends at the Guildford Harbour Hotel. Not that the building is near…

Kay & Spiro | Horsham Church Wedding
Horsham church wedding photography A local wedding for me, a Horsham church wedding, a wedding in the town in which I live in Sussex. Kay and Spiro’s intimate wedding, with family and a few friends, took place on a curiously cold day in May. So much for late Spring/early summer. They opted for a reduced coverage – from arrivals at the church until everyone sat down for the wedding meal at the local golf club in Mannings Heath. This unusual cold May weather was hardly welcoming to Spiro’s Greek relatives. It felt and looked more like a bitterly cold day…

Mayfield school wedding
mayfield school wedding So the wettest April since 1910 – not hard to believe if you were at Thea & Tom’s wedding at Mayfield school in East Sussex. Perched above The Weald, just south of Royal Tunbridge Wells, Mayfield is famous for the legend of St Dunstan – see the first photo and a detail of the village sign. ( The legend is “ the Devil disguised himself as a beautiful young woman and visited Dunstan in his forge. As a girl, he laughed and joked with the saint and used all his charms in an attempt to seduce him;…

Humanist wedding | Julie & Ian
Humanist wedding in the garden The days before a wedding ceremony can be very stressful – the seating plan, checking the suppliers are correctly briefed, making the table decorations, watching the weather forecast (hourly) – it can be a long list of things to get anxious about. But then add to the mix perhaps the worry as to whether the groom will be able to make it? Or will the UK Border agency kick him out of the country? It can seem like an innocent question that they ask you at the immigration desk at Heathrow airport, the one about…

Heidi & Toby | Kent Wedding Photography
Kent wedding photography April can be an unpredictable month for weather. Winter can have its last hurrah or it can feel like early summer. All last week the forecast for Saturday seemed to be set for rain, but Heidi & Toby’s Kent wedding in Shorne escaped the downpours. Despite dark clouds hanging around at times, the day was actually blessed by some sunny Spring weather. Coverage begins with Heidi getting ready in her mother’s home, only yards from the church. You can see the church from the back garden it’s that close. Also close and on the way, is…

Ragley Hall wedding | Morag & James
Ragley Hall wedding photography Morag and James’s wedding was in Warwickshire, on chilly Saturday in April. Coverage starts in the local pub. A quick drink for the groom and friends in the Mason’s Arms, in the village of Long Marston, about 5 miles southwest of Stratford-upon-Avon. Bard country. The church where the ceremony would take place, was just a short stroll up the road for them, at St James the Great church in the village. Warwickshire wedding reception venue The church service in Long Marston was then followed by a wedding reception at Ragley Hall, just a few miles away…

Bisham Abbey wedding | Clare & Stuart
Bisham abbey wedding photography Last Friday saw the first of five weddings this month – Clare and Stuart’s wedding at Bisham Abbey near Marlow in Berkshire and home to one of the National Sports Centres. Indeed the last time I was at Bisham was to photograph another England football team training session before another disappointing tournament. But Bisham Abbey itself is a Grade I listed manor house, named after a monastery that used to be on the same spot. It is situated next to the river Thames. The building has it origins as a community house for the Knights Templar…

Autumn in April | Sussex Engagement shoot
It felt like Autumn – actually, almost like winter – rather than Spring and Easter. But the Sun did make an appearance, just as we were finishing up the engagement shoot for Zoe and Andy. Shot in the East Sussex countryside, only a couple of miles from the church in Rotherfield where they will get married in May, with a reception at Buckhurst Park. Here are a few images from yesterday…
