Bisham Abbey wedding | Clare & Stuart
Bisham abbey wedding photography
Last Friday saw the first of five weddings this month – Clare and Stuart’s wedding at Bisham Abbey near Marlow in Berkshire and home to one of the National Sports Centres. Indeed the last time I was at Bisham was to photograph another England football team training session before another disappointing tournament. But Bisham Abbey itself is a Grade I listed manor house, named after a monastery that used to be on the same spot. It is situated next to the river Thames. The building has it origins as a community house for the Knights Templar in 1260, the priory being founded in the fourteenth century, and built around it. Later it became part of the divorce settlement between Henry VIII and Anne of Cleves. A spot with a fair bit of history. Of course, as an old building, it has the legend of a ghost. Lady Rissell, legend says she wishes to repent the death of an unverified son she allegedly caused through punishment and neglect. Didn’t spot her at the wedding!
So my first Bisham Abbey wedding and one with a Celtic flavour. The weather wasn’t the warmest, as April can be a funny month. But the rain held off for an intimate gathering of friends and family for Clare and Stuart, who being creative had come up with some great personal touches – check out what was on everyone’s table setting! There was also a rousing rendition by all the guests of “Baby, I Love you” (The Ramones) to complete the wedding ceremony.
We did find that confetti thrown down the front of the bride’s dress doesn’t look so good in pictures – but Stuart was more than happy to help out! 🙂
Here are a few images from the day at this Bisham Abbey wedding… (PS: The lamb is very good at Bisham!)

Fantastic set of images Martin. Looks like a really fun day and you have captured it perfectly. I’m sure Clare and Stuart will be over the moon with these.
Glorious pics! gorgeous dress, excellent singalong choice, wonderful Ladybird books, such vibrant colours 🙂
