Confetti storm at Slindon House wedding

Slindon House wedding

Slindon House is a wedding venue in West Sussex, between Arundel and Chichester. It is also known, during the week, as Slindon College, an independent day and boarding school for boys aged between 8 to18. So a fitting venue for two teachers, Beth and Daniel, to hold their wedding in. I’ve been here before. A wedding reception only that time, but also a few times for The Times, as well as a family dinner some years ago. My wife’s late aunt grew up here, her father was the headmaster many years ago. A manor house with a mix of architectural styles, overlooking the coast and out to sea – the lawns have a great view, and are a lovely and pretty unique backdrop for a wedding reception. Curiously, the medieval Summer Palace for the Archbishop of Canterbury, Stephen Langton (Magna Carta era) once occupied this site.

But roll forward to Beth and Daniel’s August wedding – being in the UK, it rained.

Stag Lodge

Coverage starts at Stag Lodge, an AirBnB which is one of a pair of Georgian gatehouses on the Dale Park estate, just a stone’s throw away from Slindon House. It was raining. Beth was getting ready with her family and friends, before heading over to Slindon House for a wedding reception before the wedding ceremony. Drinks in the Victorian Conservatory. Daniel also retrieved his speech, which had joined the other sheets of paper masking off the school noticeboard. Before long, time for the Slindon House wedding.

With seating arranged in the Grand Hall, Beth and Daniel walked in together. They had even found a Registrar who didn’t impose formal rules or get in the way – quite a find from a wedding photographer’s perspective. The ceremony complete and after Beth punched the air walking back down the aisle, the guests gathered outside – the rain having stopped – to create one of the biggest confetti blitzes I’ve seen. Drinks and wedding games on the lawn, in the sunshine!

Dinner, speeches, a few tables cleared and the dancing kicked off. A couple of inspired guests brought bubble guns onto the dance floor too! Here are few images from this Slindon House wedding…

“The pictures are everything we could have hoped for and more. Thank you so, so much for capturing our day so perfectly. We will treasure the images for the rest of our lives.”
