Reportage wedding photography at Arundel Cathedral
Arundel, one of the prettiest towns in Sussex. Arundel Cathedral and the nearby castle rise up above the town, to overlook the land towards the coast. Arundel was once a major international port – with ships sailing up and down the river Arun. (Strange fact: if you are born in Arundel, you are known as a ‘mullet’. Due to mullet in the Arun) The cathedral was built by the Duke of Norfolk in the late nineteenth century. A Victorian take on the French Gothic style. A Sussex location for a Sussex girl to marry a man from Essex. Claudia and Ben got married.
But first, the coverage starts at Claudia’s mum’s home in nearby Angmering. I got there earlier than agreed, but still, all the bridesmaids were dressed and ready, with Claudia almost finished too. They were keen to get on with the day. Ben would be early to the cathedral too. The main entrance out of action, due to scaffolding, Claudia was escorted by her brother and father into the cathedral and down the aisle. A wedding ceremony, without the Mass. A slight hiccup with the words by Ben – but all done, signed and applauded. Back out into the sunshine. Off to Slindon College.
Wedding reception at Slindon College
An independent boys’ school, on the edge of the South Downs, with a view. Drinks on the terrace, overlooking the coast. In clear weather, the Isle of Wight, if you look. The weather held fine – better than the forecast. Music and a musical ‘show’ – with a can-can, before into the school for speeches and the wedding meal. As the sun started to dip – strays of golden light, coming through the windows, the room was partially cleared and the DJ set up in the corner. The dancing could start…
