Clock Barn wedding reportage photography
Not every wedding has a BBC film crew. Sarah and Nick had a large crew on hand, to film their Clock Barn wedding. Celebrity status. So why?
Sarah’s school choir, she is the choirmaster/teacher, had made the finals – the final three – of the Choir competition on TV. A big achievement – the only school choir to make it. But….the final was set to take place when Sarah was on her honeymoon, just days after the wedding at Clock Barn. The choir sang at the wedding – you can see how they got on at the finals when the programme is aired in the autumn. But TV wanted a piece of the story and they were a lot less intrusive than many wedding videographers!!! No fighting for positions at the front. (But if they include me photographing a lineup of the choir in the bright sunshine – it wasn’t me who set that up like that….it was them! 😉 )
So coverage begins at the home of Sarah’s parents in Wokingham. Clock Barn is down the M4 and turn left down the A34. Here a friend handled Sarah’s makeup, as her bridesmaids got ready with her too. At the barn, Nick was greeting family and friends and trying to ignore the TV cameras. A humanist ceremony in the barn, confetti run outside and then a relaxing time drinking with the guests. A few interviews to camera for Sarah and the choir. Pictures in a field before the meal, interspersed with the speeches. Three best men, all with different duties. The speech duty was given to the professional speaker, Tom. They were all very good speeches – I’ve heard enough by now, to know – but Tom’s was very funny, as you would expect. There was even a wedding cake competition, guests bringing their entries. The winner was the first cake to be cut by the couple.
When the light is perfect is key!
We then had a pause, as the barn was turned around, for the dancing. Drinks and photobooth but also the last of the sunshine. It actually hadn’t been that sunny all day. But as what often happens, the sun can appear just before it dips below the horizon. That summer evening glow – lighting up the tall grass (see below).
Then it was dancing…
