Buxted Park wedding photography
“After a hurricane, comes a rainbow.” ( Katy Perry, Firework ) As I was processing this November wedding I had iTunes on shuffle and this song came up just as I reached the rainbow pictures……this was a wedding on the day after Hurricane Jude struck south-east England. A day that saw reports of four treefalls across my route to the venue, Buxted Park. It’s not that far from me and the biggest tree fell just yards (metres) away from the entrance to the estate. I understand that a member of staff at the hotel had a lucky escape in the early hours as a tree fell on her car. For Lucy, staying nearby, it had meant a night of little sleep thanks to a power cut. But as the song says, the clouds peeled away to blue skies and strong autumn sunshine. With downpours not far away, so would the wedding reception be overlooked by several rainbows.
Lucy got ready at Buxted park but the wedding was to be down the road at her place of work, St Leonard’s-Mayfield school, where she is a teacher. Lucy found my work after I covered another wedding in the massive school chapel there last year, on a very wet and windy day. Indeed on the run-up to the wedding, the forecast had been for heavy rain on the day ( before the hurricane warnings came along ) and Lucy reckoned I was the jinx given my last wedding there. I think it was tongue-in-cheek? 😉 The rain held off until later and Lucy arrived in the sunshine for the ceremony in the school chapel, built from the Great Hall of the ruined Old Palace. The ceremony was conducted by a childhood friend of Iain’s and he managed to bring a tear from Iain as he spoke of the pride with which Iain’s late father would have had in his son on this day.
There was a brief time for drinks in the covered courtyard after the ceremony and then the short trip to Buxted Park for the main reception, wedding breakfast, evening party and those rainbows… ( Check out the photo of Iain that the best man handed out during the speeches – looks like he was in the cast of Aussie soap, Neighbours! 😉
