Square Tower wedding in Portsmouth

Reportage wedding photography at the Square Tower and Boathouse 4

A Portsmouth wedding. A ceremony at the Square Tower for Southsea locals, Nancy and Dan. The tower is on the waterfront in Old Portsmouth and is among the earliest stone fortifications built in the naval city. Together with the Round Tower, the adjacent sea-wall and the Saluting Platform are the only parts of the Tudor works to survive. Built in 1494 during the reign of Henry VII and was the residence of the military governor, even a magazine in the seventeenth century – now a popular wedding ceremony venue.

Coverage starts at their home in Southsea. Nancy, her mother and bridesmaids – joined later by her father. Nancy was ready early, so a bit of a wait for the taxis.

On the Square Tower!

Wedding ceremony at the Square Tower

Ceremony in the main hall, then after Nancy & Dan had walked back down the aisle and outside, the guests headed for the roof, via the bar. A splendid reflex catch from Dan, as the wind scooped up Nancy’s veil…they waited to go back in. They had to move, as anther wedding couple arrived, with their photographer, for pictures in front of the Tower. (Bit odd, getting photographed in front of another venue?) Then back in and confetti on the roof. A very breezy roof for drinks, but a nice view of the ferries going in and out, the Spinnaker tower, etc.

Wedding reception at Boathouse 4

After some time, I left with Nancy & Dan, ahead of the guests, to go over to the Historic Dockyards – for some quick portraits, before heading over to Boathouse 4. Once Nancy and Dan had made their entrance, it was time for the speeches, the food, the drinks and later, the dancing. But back to those speeches….Nancy had been concerned about a big Monitor screen that the best men had placed near the top table.  Could I crop it ‘out of the photos?’. She needn’t have worried. It was inspired. They had got into Nancy and Dan’s house and filmed some sketches, as them dressed as Nancy and Dan – inspired and very funny. They were forgiven by Nancy.
