Lansdowne Club wedding – Erica & Ross

Lansdowne Club wedding photography
A Lansdowne Club wedding for Erica and Ross. A slice of New York’s Manhattan combined with London’s Mayfair. Erica and Ross had come over the Atlantic from their home in New York. A wedding at the exclusive private members’ club, in the heart of one of London’s most stylish and historic areas. An Anglo-American wedding, as Ross is from just down the road, in Kent.
A very apt location for such a wedding. Lansdowne House, begun in 1763, was the London home of the British Prime Minister at the time of The American War of Independence, Lord Shelburne (later the Marquess of Lansdowne). The only room that survives intact from this time, the Round Room, now a bar, is where Lord Shelburne and Benjamin Franklin drew up the terms for the Treaty of Paris, ending the Revolutionary War. The building has changed a bit since it was designed by the famous Robert Adam. The house lost its front garden, that was the south side of Berkeley Square and even part of the front of the house was sliced off, as it was remodelled over the years. Since 1935 however, it has been one of London’s most well known private members clubs. An elegant location for an elegant wedding.
Ross got ready at the Lansdowne, while Erica was around the corner, at the boutique hotel, Flemings Mayfair. But before the wedding ceremony, to take place in the ballroom at the club, a little bit of America. The First Look. A first for me too, to shoot, that is. Not part of UK weddings usually. Ross waited in the middle of Berkeley Square (surrounded that day by construction vans, builders in high viz jackets and a traffic jam caused by a nearby demo) while Erica walked up behind him, to tap him on the shoulder. Groom turns…first look. Usually followed by a kiss! (or two)
The first wedding ceremony to take place in the ballroom at the Lansdowne for several years. It was simple and quick – no fuss, a fluffed line or two though….;-) It was then drinks in the courtyard. The roof of the adjoining bar sliding back for more outdoor space. A few quick pictures in nearby Green Park, before back to the ballroom for the wedding breakfast. Although first, a speech from Erica’s father – introduced by a ‘redcoat’.
Dancing in the evening capped a very special day for a very lovely couple.
Here are a few images from the day…a glamorous Lansdowne Club wedding…
