A look back at 2014

Wedding Photography in 2014

Wedding Photography in 2014, a look back at a busy year. Just about every wedding photographer’s website has one of these ‘end-of-year reports’ at this time of year. They will often say what ‘an amazing year it has been’, etc, etc. Well, I think I can justify saying the same… Last year, when I looked back at 2013 I said, “So, 2014. Looks like it could be another cracker, if not better! Fingers crossed! Certainly looks like it will be even busier than last year…”.

It was.

Better in many ways and certainly busier. I shot the most weddings in 2014 that I’ve shot in any year. It was busy.

So, 2014. Wedding photography kicked off at the start of February and finished in December. I’ve been to North Yorkshire, Herefordshire, Wales, Suffolk, Cambridge, Oxford, Bicester, Northampton, Stratford-upon-Avon, Berkshire, Hertfordshire, Surrey, Essex, The New Forest and Kent. But the bulk of my weddings, have again, been in Sussex and London. Already for 2015, I have weddings booked in London, Sussex, Yorkshire, Oxford, Wiltshire, Essex, Surrey and North Cyprus!

I shot in mostly new venues again. Barns, tipis, gardens, fields, restaurants, pubs, bars, hotels, churches, chapels, cathedral crypts, town halls, coffee houses, a stud farm, private members clubs, theatres, Cambridge University colleges, a lost village, an art gallery, a Royal Pavilion, a seaside pier and a castle. Big weddings, small weddings. Boat trips, a conker championship and a ghost tour. A wedding where the couple changed the date so that I could shoot it! And again, a lot of the weddings were for creative people – art teachers, photographers, graphic designers, filmmakers. I have always taken this as a good endorsement of my work.

I began in 2103 with an award, winning the title of Professional Photographer of the Year with a wedding image. I topped this in 2014 though. I won the title Best Wedding Photographer (London and the South East) in the regional finals of The Wedding Industry Awards 2015. Regional winners go on to the national finals that take place in January. Not an easy region to win – 80 wedding photographers as finalists for a start. This is an award based not only on the quality of the photography ( judged by a panel of photographers) but also on the reviews from couples. I get to see these comments after the national finals.

What does it mean? If nothing else hopefully it helps couples place their trust in me to capture their wedding days. Thank you to those that did this year and those already booked for next year (and 2016).

So a new year. Time first to work on my skills. You never stop learning as a photographer, always pushing your style further, bit by bit.

So wishing everyone happy holidays and a great new year to come!
