Thatch barn wedding

A warm day in Cambridgeshire, in the small village of Yelling, just east of St Neots. A wedding with a church wedding and where the reception was held directly opposite, in the Thatch Barn. Just a walk across the road. How simple is that?

Photography begins near St Neots, at Sara’s parents’ home. Getting ready with friends and family. As usual, I left at a predetermined time to drive across to Yelling to pick up the narrative with the groom and arriving guests. Plus, I usually have to be told that particular church’s rules by the vicar. The church was there, the rules were outlined, the guests were arriving, but there was no groom. The clock ticked. The ceremony started at 12:30; it was 12:22, and there was still no groom. Would the bride beat him to the church?

Shaun finally arrived at 12.23 – a late taxi. Sara and her bridesmaids arrived just a few minutes later. I have never seen this so tight. But from there on the day went very smoothly. The ceremony, confetti outside and then across to the wedding reception over the road. Although Sara and Shaun took the wedding car – might as well use it!

Cambridgeshire wedding venue

Drinks, canapés and music in the sunshine, next to an over 400-year-old building. A Grade II listed, thatched barn. A family-run business that has helped the church gain more wedding ceremony bookings in the 14 years it has been a wedding venue. Set on a working farm, surrounded by fields. This was a wedding with a large contingent from Shaun’s home country, South Africa. Maybe not so warm for them? Drinks, some very enthusiastic wedding bouquet-catching, speeches, a meal and dancing in the barn.
