The Weather.…a British obsession and with this summer so far, not hard to understand why! Against a backdrop of TV and radio news bulletins, proclaiming ‘Noah’s Flood’ about to hit the South West of England, it was a soggy journey to Gloucestershire for Sarah and David’s wedding this weekend. They were to get married in their church, Trinity, ‘a vibrant Anglican Church in the heart of Cheltenham town centre’. The sun did appear, just prior to and during the service but the pastor’s grateful words for the sunshine were to be premature – a very big black cloud was waiting just out of the town – the rain was coming.

It wasn’t ‘The Flood’ but it was soggy and muddy, which was a shame as the grounds at the beautiful venue of Stanway House could not be used to their full. Sheltering within the amazing fourteenth-century Tithe Barn and a marquee, it was a day of almost continual rain. A  day of both drizzle and erratic heavy downpours. It was a day to pull on some wellies, keep smiling and enjoy the party. Even without a bright blue sky as a backdrop to set off the fountain – Britain’s largest still looked spectacular. Although when deciding as a group that it’s a good spot for posing for pictures – best to check the wind direction!  Even a bee landing on the bride during the formal portrait didn’t spoil the day. The coverage begins with the bride getting ready in a hotel on Cleeve Hill, just outside the town. From there into central Cheltenham. The groom had saved me a parking spot beside the church. But an ‘official’ was having none of that! A desperate scramble to find a parking spot in a nearby car park… After the ceremony, everyone headed the twelve miles to Stanway House. The actual wedding venue is the impressive Tithe Barn, with a marquee. The rain barely stopped.
