River Cottage wedding – Cath & David

River Cottage wedding photography
River Cottage was the idyllic location for last Sunday’s wedding and it was a cracker!
You’ll have heard of River Cottage, it’s bound to be on the spine of one of the cookery books on your kitchen shelf. It’s the River Cottage HQ, Park Farm, the focus of Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s Channel 4 series. A rustic old farmhouse on the Devon/Dorset border that looks so familiar as you descend into the valley, thanks to the many series filmed there.
Cath & Davey had not only chosen a great spot, they had also chosen the right date. Blue skies and warm sunshine, in complete contrast to the wedding I covered on this date last year, another wedding with an Aussie connection – that time on the bride’s side – Davey’s the Aussie here. Last year was unfortunately damp and very, very cold, with everyone sheltering near the heater in the marquee. But last weekend, the planned outdoor humanist wedding ceremony was able to take place in the cottage’s kitchen garden, under a clear blue sky.
The only slight downside was that the barn, that burnt down last year, was still not up and running but the solution that river Cottage came up with beats many wedding marquees/venues anywhere. Guests ate their meal overlooking the Axe valley and a spectacular view of the setting sun. ( I was kindly fed too and yes, the food is seriously excellent! )
But this was a warm wedding not just because of the weather. You could see that Cath & Davey had surrounded themselves with their favourite people to share this day with them and their young son, Eddie. Davey won the welly-wangling (so it’s called) and won the golden boot signed by Hugh. But then Cath got something novel too. She learnt something new about her husband on her wedding day – he was once a gymnast. There’s photographic proof below, a handstand before his speech. A picture to show Eddie when he is older and prove to him that his dad still ‘had it’! 😉 ( There is also a story about the airline pilot hat …. but that’s for them to tell! )
A cracking, relaxed, fun wedding. I hope the photos do it justice – here are a few from the day at River Cottage…

A lovely wedding captured so eloquently in pictures. Top stuff Martin!
