Plush Manor wedding | Sophie & Panu

Plush Manor in Dorset

Plush Manor summer wedding

A mid-June wedding at Plush manor in Dorset. Don’t be fooled by the blue skies, only a few hours before it had been torrential rain. It looked set like that for the day, but the forecast promised a break in the low cloud cover – sure enough, the forecast proved right. But still, with so much rain, the wedding plans had changed. Handy when there is a deconsecrated church in the grounds. The planned outdoor ceremony, in front of the portico that you can see in the first picture, was abandoned. The ceremony switched to the old church. The sun then decided to turn up after all…

Plush Manor, not just a wedding venue, a family home

Plush Manor, an eighteenth-century gem hidden amongst the hills and valleys just north of Dorcester is available to hire for weddings and private parties. But for Sophie and Panu, this wasn’t a hire of a very smart venue, in beautiful countryside, for their wedding day – this was the family home in the country. It belongs to Sophie’s family. A wedding at home.

Sophie walked to the church with her two children. A Victorian build, in a ‘Romanesque’ style. The family had saved it from a fate of being turned into flats and since it’s restoration, they hold music concerts there.  Inside, everyone stood – no pews – a relaxed approach. A ceremony, on the stage, conducted by a friend, before drinks in the bright sunshine, in front of the church. The drinks were key for Panu, that’s his business. Then down to the marquee for the meal and speeches.

Evening was drinks on the lawn, as the sun dipped behind the opposite hills. Some dancing in the church too.

Here are a few images from this summer wedding at Plush Manor, where the sun did finally shine…
