A Horsham wedding, a local wedding for me. A ceremony at Park House registry office with a reception in the garden of the Frog and Nightgown pub (and tearoom), just north of the town. This was a wedding that had originally been planned for 2020. Jenni got in touch back in 2019, 'I'm really interested in someone to capture the feel and emotions of the day rather than the strained smiles in overly posed photos. I love that yours show the atmosphere of the day. I love reportage-style images and the way they capture moments rather than fulfilling a tick box exercise of group photos.'
A wedding that was booked in for September 2020…then the Covid-19 pandemic appeared. By May 2020, the wedding had to be postponed. The idea was maybe to July of that year? But no registrar was available at the end of July, so the wedding was postponed for exactly twelve months, to September 2021. Then the booked wedding venue closed in November. Gyhll Manor hotel in Rusper, closed its doors, went up for sale. Would this still be a Horsham wedding?
Horsham wedding - Park House wedding ceremony
The ceremony location changed to Park House in Horsham park. Horsham register office. In June of 2021, I was not allowed into the ceremony room at Park House, due to their Covid rules. Three months later this had relaxed, still face masks and hand gel though. With the ceremony concluded, Jenni and Craig walked out of the back of Park House, to the steps to the gardens there, to find a surprise. Craig's Scout troop had lined up either side of the steps to form a guard of honour for the newlyweds.
Wedding reception in the pub garden
After some time catching up with family and friends, in Horsham Park, it was then onto the wedding reception at The Frog and Nightgown pub. I hitched a lift in the wedding taxi - sat on the floor - to pick up my car at the couples' house before they went on for a short drive. Meanwhile, the guests made their way to the pub on a warm day in September. This is a pub popular with North Horsham residents on a summer's evening - a short walk across the fields. We went here after the first National Lockdown eased. Great pizza. (Sadly that field will be concreted over soon, as Legal and General build a business park there). Horsham is getting extended across the A264.
Drinks in the garden, before food and speeches in the long marquee. A few tables cleared and moved, time for the party to start...
Here are a few images from this Horsham wedding...
