Goodsoal Oast, a relatively new wedding venue in East Sussex and the location for Nancy and Bob's wedding ceremony. A large private house in Burwash Common, with a gothic-style oast for intimate wedding ceremonies (more on that later) and a terrace with one of the best views across the Weald countryside you will find.
But the coverage begins down the road and over the county border, in Kent and at Nancy's family home in Hawkhurst. A big marquee in the beautiful gardens, with bunting, and everything looking immaculate. Nancy got ready here with her two bridesmaids and family.
Over at Goodsoal Oast, Bob was beginning to greet the guests. Now the oast isn't very big, there is some extra seating on a small mezzanine. It also not especially bright, despite the large arched windows. The question is always how and where to shoot the ceremony from? This depends upon the space, the light and what the officiating registrar allows. Luckily Nancy and Bob had a friendly registrar who was happy to help. There was really only one spot to shoot from, from the window. Now this meant being right in amongst it - not normally where you want to be as a photographer 'trying to be discreet'. Much of the ceremony was shot on a wide 28mm lens, as I tried to learn back into the window - blocked by a big candlestick. It reminded me of shooting a ceremony at Huntsham Court in Devon - shooting over the registrars's shoulder. I was closer this time. In fact that is the closest I've ever been during a ceremony.
But I think it made pictures. Such as the time there was a slight hiccup over a word during the vows. I shan't mention what the word was but you can see the reaction. It also meant I could capture one of the most passionate kisses between a bride and groom at a wedding ceremony that I've seen. No quick peck on the cheek for Nancy and Bob! 😉
Drinks followed on the terrace after a confetti run to the side of the walled garden, before the buses and cars heading back to Kent for more drinks, the meal in the marquee and the wedding speeches. Not forgetting the dancing later.
Here are a few images from this Goodsoal Oast wedding....

Wow, thanks Martin – the pictures you’ve taken are amazing. You’ve captured the essence of the day perfectly and they will help remind us of our wedding in years to come… Even though you were there in the thick of it, I doubt our guests managed to catch you in many of their photos! Thank you again, Nancy & Bob
