Reportage wedding photography at Coltsfoot Country Retreat

Coltsfoot Country Retreat, at the end of a narrow country lane in Hertfordshire – between Welwyn Garden City and Stevenage. The venue for Leila and Colin’s wedding reception, bathed in brilliant March sunshine. Albeit with a chilly March wind too! It was where the coverage starts too – with Leila getting ready with family and friends. Very relaxed and chilled bridal preps!

Then less than an half an hour drive – through more distinctly narrow Hertfordshire country lanes – to the village of Sandridge, just outside my old town of St Albans. The church of St Leonard’s in the village. It’s been many years since I was last here. That was to photograph the wedding of an old school friend – the coverage then started in the pub just next to the church lychgate. (I’d pass my old school in St Albans on the way back to Coltsfoot –  a brief nostalgia trip)

Leila arrived in style, with her uncle, in a classic car. Task one – negotiate to get out of a small vintage car in a wedding dress… A wedding ceremony, with balloons along the nave, a punch into the air from Colin and then confetti outside, before heading back to Coltsfoot.

Still the skies stayed blue – which in the UK is something to be remarked upon. Stay out of the shade and you stay warm. Catch the cool wind and it was chilly. Glasses of fizz and food for the reception, largely outside, in the sunny courtyard. A few quick portraits, on the road outside, before heading in for the speeches and the meal. Even a quick sunset portrait during the meal. Just before the sun finally set.

Come the evening it was cut the cake and then dance…
