Sussex wedding in Steyning
A local Sussex wedding for Jazmin and Will. A Steyning church wedding ceremony and a Cissbury Barns wedding reception. Coverage starts where Jazmin was getting ready with her bridesmaids, friends, and her mother, at The Piggery near Cowfold. A 'luxury staycation venue' in West Sussex. The wedding ceremony was a twenty minutes or so drive south, in their village of Steyning near the South Downs. I've been to Steyning many times, but never to the church of St Andrew and St Cuthman. It's rather unique as churches go. Not least with the steps down from the entrance. Not a long church but a tall one, with graceful Romanesque arches. A very pretty Sussex church. Legend says that St Cuthman built the original Saxon church on this spot, where he stopped after carrying his mother in a wheelbarrow. Which is a bit of an odd legend in itself? But Alfred the Great's father was once buried on this site. Steyning is north of the South Downs but the river Adur was once bigger and there was a port here in the 11th century, allowing boats to bring goods in from the coast. A key spot in Sussex in Saxon times.
Cissbury Barns wedding reception
The ceremony done, the confetti run outside tackled, and it was then a short drive across to Cissbury. A Cissbury Barns wedding reception, with a greeting from their dog first and then drinks on the lawn. Then into the barns for dinner - see the expression on Jazmin's face as she saw the decorated barn. Speeches, food and more drinks were outside as the Pizza van arrived for the evening and the barn was turned around for the dancing with the band setting up.
The dance floor filled up very fast to surround Jazmin and Will.
