Caswell House – Lucy & James

Caswell House wedding photography
Caswell House in Oxfordshire was the venue for Lucy and James’s summer wedding last weekend. This was a wedding that will be remembered by everyone there for its warmth and I don’t just mean the weather. Lucy got to marry her LUSH man……well, I’d better quickly explain, they met at Lush. Lush romance across the mountains of soap. (Hope I’ve got this right? If not, I may have to do a fast edit, after calling James…..lush. Best that comes from Lucy!)
Back to Saturday…blue skies. Caswell House looked immaculate, the open-air ceremony looked like a starter. It was hot, the sort of hot where the groomsmen thank the groom for the three-piece suits and cravats. 😉 The sort of heat where the groom thanks himself for such attire! Cloud cover was coming to the rescue, unfortunately, it got cloudier later and a few drops of rain fell during speeches. No stunning summer sunset, but we still got some couple portraits between the meal and speeches – Lucy & James had had some practice! Once the cravat was adjusted.
The ceremony went off in fine weather – the only interruption, during a reading, was by a jet taking off from nearby RAF Brize Norton. Drinks on the lawn, some croquet, later some inflatable dinosaurs – that eventually floated off to another party. There was even a warm-up act for the confetti run – see below! Food next (it was excellent, plus one of the most professional and easy-going caterers I’ve encountered). Then speeches and more warmth!
Wedding photography is a funny game, especially documentary wedding photography. We hover around people’s lives for several hours, watching them, witnessing the relationships and looking to capture some of this in images. ( Not to mention photographing young couples kissing in woods – very odd job this!!!) But you witness how people feel about and care for each other. In this wedding, I was particularly struck by the affection between siblings. The bond between James and his brother, Lucy and her sister. Siblings/best friends. (I have two teenage daughters….not seeing that love yet!)
This was a lovely, affectionate summer wedding at Caswell House….here are a few images from the day…
