Trinity College Chapel | Hanna & Guy

Trinity College Chapel wedding photography
Trinity College, Cambridge, on a warm summer’s day. Guy’s old college and where he came back to marry Hanna. Trinity College is one of the largest of the Cambridge colleges. Founded in 1546 by King Henry VIII (He has a small statue above the Great Gate), it is also where the current King, Charles III, studied History at Cambridge. In Trinity College Chapel it has a special space in which to get married and in which to take photographs. With the unique Ante-Chapel as an entrance, housing several statues. The first image below shows a statue of Isaac Newton standing in front of a WWII Memorial that stretches across the west wall. Made of Portland stone, it was engraved by David Kindersley in 1951. It commemorates 384 Trinity men who lost their lives in World War II.
Coverage begins just a few paces away, in the Master’s Lodge, where Hanna was getting ready, with family and friends, including her many bridesmaids. A big room with a lot of people. Gradually, it thinned out as people made their way to the Chapel. Uniquely, all the seating in the chapel is down the sides of the chapel, rather than pews facing the altar. I have to say that this arrangement does help with the photography, even if you’re a bit exposed in your mission as a reportage wedding photographer to be ‘invisible’!
Ceremony complete, the guests and Ptolemy, their inflatable pink unicorn (Guy proposed to Hanna on it), made their way to nearby Neville’s Court for drinks under the shade of the Wren library. But before the drinks, a Belarusian wedding tradition, a nod to Hanna’s nationality. The karavai (or korovai), a large, highly decorated ceremonial wedding bread that represents prosperity, fertility, and community. They eat it.
Drinks complete, it was over to Westminster College for the meal and evening party. The guests walked; Ptolemy carried aloft. Guy and Hanna took a cab; I jumped into the front. So, meal and speeches, although Guy’s speech was later, in the library and was delivered in the sort of impressive way that you would expect from an actor. Dancing came next, and the evening party had begun.
Here are a few images from this Trinity College Chapel wedding day in Cambridge…Plus, I have now shot weddings at both Trinity colleges…
