Same-sex weddings became legal today, Saturday March 29th 2014. So a quick post, as my portrait of the first female couple to get married in Brighton, Tania and Nikki, made the front page of The Independent newspaper.
A text from the picture desk of The Independent last Thursday, saw me heading down to Hove, after I’d arranged a time with Tania. It was literally a five minute shoot (if that, looking at the camera EXIF ) outside the bakery where Tania works, before they had to dash off for a radio interview in Brighton.
The image looks rather darker than the one I sent, by about two stops, but that’s newspaper repro for you. 🙂 But nice to get a front page with it – more for the story than the photograph clearly. I prefer the shot they used with the article inside and online. As I write this the ceremony may well be taking place at Brighton Town Hall. They will go on to another first, with ‘what is believed to be Britain’s first same-sex Jewish wedding reception’. Looking out of my window as I type this, it is blue skies and sunshine – I hope they have a great day!
