Gate Street Barn wedding – Rebecca & David

Documentary wedding photography at Gate Street Barn

Gate Street Barn, near Guildford in Surrey,  was the venue for last Sunday’s wedding for Rebecca and David. Pretty much a local venue for me where I live in Horsham, as it’s just up the A281 towards Guildford (on the way to my in-laws house). Only a few weeks before I photographed Rebecca and David one evening for their pre-wedding shoot, at the Mayfield Lavender farm. We were lucky with the weather that evening, would we get the same at the wedding?

The weather started promising, with blue skies and fluffy white clouds. No doubt appreciated too at nearby Dunsfold aerodrome which was holding an air show that day. The wedding had a sporadic soundtrack throughout the day of fighter jets racing overhead, twisting and turning over the Surrey hills, followed by the jet engine roar. But then there was also the two graceful Spitfires which gave Rebecca and David an unscheduled flypast as we shot some group photos during the wedding reception.

Coverage begins with bridal preparations just yards from Gate Street Barn at Keepers Cottage – a short walk for the bride to the ceremony in the barn (built from downed oak trees in the 1987 hurricane). As with my last wedding, the ceremony was conducted by a family friend. I shot one of the earliest weddings at Gate Street Barn many years ago – it’s evolved beautifully since then. A very nice ceremony and reception venue, in a quiet (when there is no airshow 😉 ) location in the Surrey countryside.

Rebecca & David – seasoned travellers –  are away now on a long honeymoon of almost four weeks and certainly one of the most unique – an overland journey to Beijing! Not sure where they will hook up to see this post.*

Here are a few images from the day at Gate Street Barn….
